HANA Cloud Platform to Cloud Platform to Fiori 2.0
on 6th September, 2017
A letter/word can definitely make a big difference.
Ever since I started working on Hana Cloud Platform, I have heard multiple misconceptions about it.
Few still are floating around when it comes to the SAP HANA Cloud Platform (HCP).
Some of the user queries include things like:
- They don’t relate to HANA anyhow
- Why we need Cloud when we still have Eclipse?
- Who will pay for its licenses?
- Connection configuration and setup plan require a lot of monetary investment
- Insecure it is when everything is on cloud
Eventually the word ‘platform’ plays the main game, which everyone fails to concentrate on.
The common mindset of considering HCP’s technical capabilities only in reference with HANA has somehow changed ever since Hana Cloud Platform got renamed to Cloud Platform.
This is one of the major reasons why dropping of a word is still a talked about topic in town.

Highlights of Fiori 2.0
Being an SAP Fiori Consultant, I would not leave this discussion without mentioning about Fiori which stands as the foremost design for all SAP applications.
One of my previous blogs on Fiori could be found here (Design Simple, Good Looking Apps with SAP FIORI and SAPUI5)
So when Fiori 2.0 is the new market sensation, let’s have a look at what are the highlights of Fiori 2.0.
Basically, Fiori 2.0 is making difference as it had come up with smart templates, so the user doesn’t have to customize much and it results in much time saving; it also enables multitasking as it makes better use of context.
Also it has been designed for the purpose of making applications even more flexible in terms of navigation and screen layouts.
SAP Fiori 2.0 has introduced an important feature of managing a large numbers of applications. Fiori has taken UI/UX to the next level like for example if we remember those initial Launchpad looks, which had specific and restricted number of tiles/applications to this time when Fiori has become much more capable of handling entire business flows with a larger number of applications.
Multiple widgets have been introduced to enhance the homepage with splendid content elements that allow users to utilize interactive charts and much more, that is way similar to the widgets in the Android home screens.
Another substantial one is the Overview page, which represents as a tile on the home page that encapsulates multiple apps as a folder and reduces the quantum of individual apps on the home page itself.
Well, if there are pros, there are cons as well. There are no improvements specific to Fiori 2.0 with regards to offline mode. Online web based application mode is the standard one.
Developing applications for Fiori 2.0 will not be much different from previous applications. However, there are additional capabilities that we can make use of while implementing applications.
“Belize” is the new “Blue Crystal, and in future “Belize Deep” could be the new cherry on the cake for pleasant visual applications.
The best development experience of Fiori is with SAP Cloud Platform, Believe it… it actually is because SAP Fiori has rendered user experiences to business applications and keeps the business and organizations up to date in the present market scenarios.
Using SAP Cloud Platform along with Fiori opens doors to a multitude of possibilities for creating visually appealing and performance driven application development.
